21-man Team Announced
South Africa named a 21-man team for the three-match Test series against India, which begins on December 26 at home.
The series will be contested at SuperSport Park in Centurion (1st Test), The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg (2nd Test), and Newlands in Cape Town as part of the ICC World Test Championship’s new cycle (3rd Test).
Anrich Nortje was named to the squad, while Sisanda Magala, a bowler, and wicketkeeper-batsman Ryan Rickelton, are newcomers.
“The National Selection Panel has retained the core group that visited the West Indies effectively in June this year, as well as three others,” Cricket South Africa said in a statement.

In Test cricket, the highest innings total was achieved in the series between Sri Lanka and India in August 1997. The hosts scored 6/952d in the first innings of the first Test at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
This shattered the long-standing record of 7/903d set by England against Australia at The Oval in the last Test of the 1938 Ashes series. South Africa established their greatest innings score of 682/6d in the second Test of the 2003 series against England.
Run chases with the highest success rate
The highest fourth-inning total for South Africa is 450/7, which came in a failed run chase against India in Johannesburg in December 2013.
India has set a goal of 457 points. In another draw against England at The Oval in 1947, South Africa’s second-highest fourth-innings total of 423/7 was achieved.
The most successful run chase by South Africa was against Australia in Perth in 2008, and it is also the second most successful fourth-innings total. Australia had set a target of 414 points for South Africa.
